There are a number of social work scholarships that are specific to a certain school or state, and this is one of the most popular. Available to Maryland residents who are enrolled in a full or part-time program at some of the larger Maryland schools and who are able to demonstrate a financial need, the scholarship awards between $1,000 and $5,000 per year to students pursuing careers in social work or medicine. Transcripts and letters of recommendation are best submitted with an application.
On behalf of the Scholarship Committee, we are pleased to announce the first round of School of Social Work Scholarship awardees for 2015!
A year ago, Paul Richardson was a postal worker in Orange County, dreaming of a military commission so he could help troops deal with mental health issues. A former enlisted serviceman, Richardson always knew he wanted to help people but never thought it would be through social work or that he would be a recipient of one of the first Air Force social work scholarships. The National Association of Social Works via the Political Affairs Office offers many social work scholarships. Among them are the Alfred V. Taylor Scholarship. This scholarship provides resources to students that are pursuing a degree in social work and have a desire to promote the practice outside of their career and within. Those that wish to apply must provide extensive personal information, including proof of academic ability and financial need. They must also show a desire to pursue a career in politics and pursuing social work with a political lens. It is incumbent upon the applicant to explain how they will meet these ends. Further, those that want to pursue this one of the social work scholarships available through the NASW should note that they will need to provide letters of interest, a completed application, and a two page proposal including a fact sheet. To apply, individuals need to contact the National Association of Social Workers or their college of acceptance as they have access to this information and where to send any application materials and letters of interest. To get all of the details, find the information through the NYU Silver School of Social Work.
